More about Red iFulva Bayou Iris: Red iFulva Iris has coppery red to brick red flowers and is sometimes found in yellow. The sepals are widely spreading and arching downward. The signal is a faint yellow and basal. The petals are spreading and pendulous, smaller than the sepals. The inflorescence is one to two-flowered. The bright green leaves are basally arching, arising from shallowly rooted, narrow, compact, and branching rhizomes that can form large clumps.
Few expect to encounter this Iris in the wild, as it is very rare. Concentrated in the Bayou Country of Louisiana, it can also be found along the southern Mississippi River Valley. The iFulva genes are one of the principle reasons for the hardiness of Louisiana Iris hybrids across the United States. The iFulva Iris, which is the second oldest Iris found in the Bayou region, was named and identified in 1812. It is predominantly red and it has been the principle contributor to red and related colors in modern hybrids.
